Dr. Abdallah Zaki, beloved husband, father, grandfather, physician, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2025, at the age of 81. He is survived by his devoted wife, Leila; his three children, Joseph, Dina, and Richard; and his cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, Kaden, Lennon and Jude.
Born in Cairo, Egypt, on October 29, 1943, Dr. Zaki’s life journey was one of honor, strength, and unshakable self-determination. After completing medical school in Egypt, he immigrated to Montreal, Canada with his new wife, Leila (née Kheir), beginning a life together that would span a 57-year marriage built on inseparable partnership and dedication to family.
Dr. Zaki, affectionately known as Dr. Z, devoted over four decades to the field of anesthesiology, with a specialization in pain management. He was deeply respected by his colleagues for his exemplary leadership and skill, and was beloved by his patients for his bedside manner infused with sensitivity, kindness, and care. His career was marked not just by excellence, but by a profound integrity that guided his work and relationships alike.
Known in equal measure for his generosity, his sharp wit, and his unwavering moral compass, Dr. Zaki was the quiet force behind many family milestones and moments of needed grace. Whether offering support, advice, or humor, he was always present, always dependable, and always gentle.
He found joy in the simple and profound pleasures of life: a new shiny red car, the warmth of the sun and the sound of the ocean waves, joyful music and dance, spirited conversations over happy hour, and the beauty of seeing the world through travel. He had a calming presence and a clear, grounded perspective that consistently offered sound and trusted guidance to all who relied on him.
Dr. Zaki will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but most importantly for his kindness of spirit, his ever-present sense of humor and his boundless generosity towards his family and friends—the essence of a life deeply lived, and deeply missed. May his legacy continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be touched by his presence.
In the words of his beloved cousin, “He was the best of us.”
