Finneas Charles Bater fell asleep in Jesus on June 15, nearly one month shy of his third birthday. Diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor in November 2022, he quickly earned the nickname “Finn the Fighter” from all who knew and loved him. Born into this world on July 21, 2020, he was born again through water and the Spirit two days later in Holy Baptism at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, California. It was the promises of forgiveness and life eternal, made to him in Baptism by his gracious Savior, that sustained and comforted Finneas throughout his short life and continues to do the same for his family. He was the king of sneaking into places he didn’t belong, always had food in his hand, and rarely wore clothes. Leery of missing out on a party, he never fell asleep easily and that served him well as he fearlessly fought his cancer to the end. He now rests safely in the arms of his loving and living Lord and awaits the resurrection on the Last Day. Finneas is survived by his parents, Rev. Noah and Melissa Bater of Thousand Oaks, his big sister, Emersyn and big brother, Thaddeus. All four of his grandparents: Charles and Nancy Beach of Saginaw, Michigan, and Rev. Michael and Charlotte Bater of Onsted, Michigan. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, his church family and friends.
A service of Christian Funeral will be held on Monday, June 26, at St. Paul’s First Lutheran Church (5244 Tujunga Ave. North Hollywood, CA 91601) at 11:00am with the Reverend Dr. Michael Berg preaching and Professor Jonathan Micheel presiding. The family will welcome visitors for a brief viewing at St. Paul’s prior to the service. In lieu of gifts or flowers, memorials may be given in Finn’s name to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, California, the 50th Anniversary Building Fund at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, Utah, or to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
