Bella née Rubin Rosman, age 101, born in Connecticut to Samuel and Ida Rubin, formerly of North Bergen, NJ and Lauderdale Lakes, FL peacefully passed away on Mother's Day, May 8, 2022, in West Orange, NJ. Beloved wife of the late Abraham Rosman; mother of Martin (Sharon née Bunnell) Rosman of Crystal River, FL and Jeffrey (Joyce née McMahon) Rosman of Succasunna, NJ; predeceased by her dear siblings Milton, Irving, Julia and Joe; grandmother "Bubby" of Elizabeth (the late Sean) Barber of Crystal River, FL, Caroline (Brian) McKee of Orland Park, IL, Laura Rosman (David Winters, fiancée) Glen Gardner, N Dr. Diana (Christopher) Balzer of Annandale, NJ and Jonathan Rosman; adoring great-grandmother of Nova Barber, Kai Palmer, Lenore “Yoshi” McKee, Ethan Balzer, Angela and Ryan Winters; her niece Carol (née Fishman) Bufano the daughter she never had; she is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The essence of Bella Rosman is difficult to capture in an obituary, those that knew her understood her, there is no way that words could truly capture her spirit. She had immense spunk, wit, and character. She was the quintessential Jewish mother. She was a prolific cook who loved to feed people. She made the most amazing blintzes; her challah, rugulah and mandel bread are similarly noteworthy. She hosted many Passover Seders and break-the-fast (at the end of Yom Kippur). Her door was always open to her fellow congregants and friends. Bella could calculate a sale price with amazing speed in her head. Born into the depression from Russian immigrants, her goal was always to have plenty of food on the table and feed anyone who visited her; she would love to one-up and brag about her sons’ engineering degrees, and the fact she was extremely proud and bragged about her five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her years with her children in New Jersey were very busy. Owner of a dress boutique for a few years in Palisades Park, NJ, she was also quite active in the Cub Scouts, the women’s club of Temple Beth El, Hadassah, and she was President along with other various posts of B’nai B’rith local chapter. Sometimes she would help at her husband’s grocery shop, Abe’s Quality Market in Secaucus, NJ. She enjoyed her weekly games of Canasta and Mahjong with her lady friends. Her volunteerism continued after she moved to Florida in 1978 with her positions in her Condo Association. She spoiled her grandchildren by offering them sweets beyond their eating capability (ask Diana if you do not believe us). Additionally, she would knit beautiful sweaters with matching hats; for the girls, she would top the outfit off with an exquisite Polly Flinders smocked dress. In August of 2001 following Abe’s death she moved back to New Jersey to live near family in an assisted living facility. In 2002 she had a very risky stomach surgery, amazingly she defeated the odds and got back to her old spicy self. She kept busy with her current event groups and weekly card games. She was an avid reader. After many years of independence, her legs were not as strong as they once had been. She moved to Daughters of Israel Nursing Home at the age of 92! Three days before her death she won the Wheelchair Race at the nursing home. We truly never expected this day to come.
