Betty was born on August 7, 1934, in New York, the daughter of Constance and Justin Simon. She was preceded in death by Robert Simon, her husband of 60 years and is survived by her brother, Ken Simon, her sons, John, Mike, Dan, and daughter-in-law, Fran and their children, Jeff, Ben, and Michelle and their spouses, Marisa, Kristen, and Michael, her loving companion of the past two years, George Mesberg, and her “Florida Family” of incredible friends.
She studied and completed her degree in English at Smith College and after years of caring for her children, she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Hofstra University. Betty then went on to be a special education teacher in New York and Texas.
Betty cared deeply for her family and friends. They were the center of her universe. She was an attentive and empathetic friend, grandmother, aunt, and mother. She had a passion for reading, card games, and talking with people. An accomplished conversationalist, Betty could talk with everyone, because she was genuinely interested in others. She was beloved by all who knew her. Words cannot express how much her loss will impact her family and friends.
Donations in Betty’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice. Betty was a longtime donor to the Susan G. Koman breast cancer foundation in memory of her beloved cousin, Louise. Donations to this organization would also be a lovely tribute to continue Betty and Louise’s legacies.
Funeral Services will be held at Star of David Funeral Home, 7701 Bailey Rd, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, Shiva will follow the services at Star of David.
