Hyacinth Blythe was born on March 3, 1933 to Clifford Blythe and Kathleen Elizabeth Forbes, in Black River, Jamaica. After she completed her primary education and Jamaica Local Exams 1, 2, and 3 successfully, she began her career as an elementary school teacher.
Hyacinth emigrated to England to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She successfully obtained her Registered Nursing credentials at Edgeware General Hospital, concentrating in Fevers and General Nursing in 1966. She would later emigrate to Washington, DC in 1968. In 1972 she moved to New York where she held a number of nursing positions across New York City including Jacobi Hospital, Jewish Home and Hospital, Pelham Bay Hospital, Visiting Nurses of New York, and St. Barnabas Hospital from which she would retire in 1995.
She relocated to Florida to begin her retirement. She quickly became a member of Faith Baptist Church in Margate and was an active member there, participating in many events and providing support where needed.
She had an incredible zest for life and enjoyed travelling with her friends and family across the United States, cruising in the Caribbean and to England. Her positive outlook on life, readiness to forgive, and loving demeanor meant she made friends easily and acquired bonus sons, daughters, and grandchildren at all points of her life.
Hyacinth is survived by her children Atille, Dodgery, Marie, and Beverly; Grandchildren – Conroy, Carla, Khadine, Nabeka, Kiah, and Tanika; Great Grandchildren – Tanisha, Ella, Niyah, Ani, Keelie, Bobby, Alfie, and Seren Rose; Great Great Grandchildren – Zarah and Aiyla
