He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Irwin Kenneth and Marilyn Steinberg, and stepfather, Ira Corbin. He was born on September 19, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. He went to South Shore High School in Brooklyn before the family moved to Florida in 1979 where he then attended Coral Springs High School.
Jay’s retail career included employment for Rite Aid, Walgreens for over twenty four years, and most recently Dollar Tree in Vero Beach, Florida. He was an exceptional manager, and all of his employees loved him. Over many years, Jay was a loyal baseball fan, being especially partial to the New York Mets, and the Miami Marlins, as well as college teams, namely the Florida Gators. At the top of his entertainment list was the late American rock singer, Meatloaf.
His hobbies centered around collecting memorabilia such as baseball cards, Coke bottles, Red Dog caps, and bird statues. His photography was quite impressive as he enjoyed viewing the world through the lens of a camera. Jay loved kids, and helped coach a few young baseball and football teams in south Florida. Having a love of animals, he was especially fond of his dogs. Waiting eagerly at the end of the Rainbow Bridge are Stripe, Snickers, Smokey, and Sandy. He leaves behind his most recent buddy, Scooter. When relaxing, he enjoyed his endless supply of Mountain Dew and Red Dog beer!
Jay is survived by son, Ian Steinberg, step-son, Alex Schock (Sydney), step-daughter, Hannah Schock (Fabian), grandchildren, Demi and Levi Schock, Leo and Dakota Braa, brothers, Eric (Fay) and Jeff, sister, Lori Steinberg, nephew, Jon (Amanda), and family, Alec, Bryce, and Kayla.
A memorial service will be held at Star of David on August 17, 2023 at 2:45 p.m. 7801 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, Florida, 33068.
