Dr. Leonard Gralnik of Hollywood, Florida was born on November 20, 1957, in Newark, New Jersey to Pearl and Sidney Gralnik, and passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025 at the age of 67, after bravely battling glioblastoma for 16 months.
Leonard earned Ph.D. and M.D. degrees from the University of Miami and later served as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He was a brilliant and highly regarded psychiatrist, board-certified in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He co-authored a book on suicide with his colleague and friend, Douglas Flemons, and published many scholarly medical journal articles.
Leonard was also a talented guitar player and enjoyed music, pickleball, classic cars, reading, and Miami Dolphins football. He was a Morse Code and amateur (ham) radio enthusiast (call sign W1LEN), achieving the highest level of proficiency in holding an Amateur Extra Class operator license. Leonard was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Sidney Gralnik, and brother, Jordan Gralnik, and is survived by his nephew, David Gralnik; niece, Lauren Fender; great-niece, Simone Fender; aunt, Adele Garber; cousins Lisa Blumetti, Ira (Maria) Cohen, Ken Garber, Ronald Penn, and Meri Thompson; and best friend, Arnold Hartman. His family extends their gratitude to his devoted caregiver, Jorge Suarez.
Funeral services will be held May 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068.
