Rabbi Lewis Carl Littman was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Ignace and Beatrice Littman. He graduated from Rutgers University and received a Masters Degree, Rabbinic ordination and a Doctorate of Divinity from Hebrew-Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He was a radio announcer known as “Lew Litt with the News Bit,” and performed as a musician and actor throughout his life.
Early in his Rabbinic career, Rabbi Littman served pulpits in Denver, Colorado, Erie, Pennsylvania and Rockville Centre, New York. He was a former regional director for the Southeast Council of the UAHC (now URJ) and was rabbi emeritus at Temple Bat Yam of East Fort Lauderdale. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Marlyn Kemper Littman, Phyllis Littman, to whom he was previously married, his sister, Maxine (Berry) Cunningham, children Jo-Ellen (Adam) Unger, Naomi (Javier) Zapata, Adam Littman, Alex (Julie) Kemper, Gari (Oliver) Claude, Jason (Thor) Kemper and grandchildren Benjamin, Jacob, Anna, Micah and Zoey.
