Marcia Ellen Hammer was one of the nicest, most kind-hearted person you could ever meet. She was the oldest child of five born to Barbara and Oscar Hammer in New York City in 1958. She was a gorgeous baby with a wonderful smile and sweet disposition. Marcia was the first born, adored and spoiled by her parents Barbara and Oscar, and grandparents Jerry and Samuel, Anna and Morris. She moved with her parents to Miami when she was very young, where her two brothers and two sisters were born. She spent most of her adult life in the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale areas, and later in life, had a house in Hartsville, South Carolina she shared with her partner Melinda and their animals.
During her childhood and throughout high school, Marcia played piano and accordion, in addition to oil painting. Even though she was talented at music and art, Marcia left those pursuits when she went to college. Although she had a degree and certificate to teach, Marcia became a Commercial Account Manager for an insurance company.
To many, Marcia appeared to be quiet and shy, but she had a very fun, sometimes mischievous, side. Marcia had a great smile, was playful, and had a huge heart. She loved her family, partner, animals, and talking to people. She also really liked clothes, and she had plenty to prove it. Marcia loved the beach and animals, with her favorite being Ocean mammals, especially dolphins and whales. She always wore her whale tail necklace she got on a “Hammer-time” family Alaskan cruise. One of her all time favorite things she ever did was experiencing a dolphin encounter excursion through a cruise where she got to touch, hug, feed, and kiss a dolphin.
After she retired, she was more curious about the world and people than ever before. She would talk to strangers and throw out compliments like candy. Speaking of candy, she was crazy for sweets. She never met a cookie, pop tart, cupcake or muffin that she didn’t like. And she loved playing Candy Crush and other games on her cellphone like a millennial.
Family was very important to Marcia. She loved them deeply and they loved her. Marcia was very close to her beloved mother Barbara who passed away on January 31, 2025. Marcia will be laid to rest in New Jersey with her mother Barbara, grandma Jerry, and grandpa Samuel.
Marcia lost her battle with cancer on 5/18/2026 at the age of 67 years old. She is survived by her father Oscar, siblings Sam, Sheryl, Francine, and Michael; sisters-in-laws Debbie, Angie, and Debby, niece Anna, nephews Daniel, Joseph, Joshua, and Zachary, her partner Melinda and her children Lindsi and Kyle aka Alex, grandchildren Landon, Brayden, Kennedi, and Amberlynn, and her animal children dogs Bruno, Koda, and Lucky and cats Merlin and Gracie, and many cousins and friends.
Marcia was like a blue butterfly, rare and special. Blue butterflies symbolize transformation, joy, hope, and new beginnings. Wherever a beautiful soul like Marcia has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. Marcia will remain in our hearts and be forever missed. May her memory always be a blessing.
A Committal Service will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Dr, Woodbridge Township, NJ 07095, US, on May 29, 2026, at 11:00 am.
