

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and esteemed engineer, Oscar L. Rubio, on February 12, 2025. Oscar left this world surrounded by his loving family.
Oscar was born on December 24, 1946, in Havana, Cuba. In 1961, he immigrated to the United States as a political refugee. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. While in Miami, he met the love of his life, Debby, with whom he shared nearly 55 wonderful years.
Oscar earned a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University, being part of its inaugural graduating class in 1974. He had a distinguished career as a civil engineer and founded Oscar L. Rubio & Associates in 1979. Throughout his career, he received numerous prestigious accolades and served as President of the South Florida chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, leaving an indelible mark on his profession and community.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah; his children, Fran (Ken) and Paul (Gildas); and his cherished grandchildren, Alexander and Maxwell. He also leaves behind his sister, Claudia; his siblings-in-law, Bonnie (the late Mike) and Ira; his nieces, Barbra (Jarrod) and Michelle; and his nephew, Jorge (Christina), along with many other loving family members and friends.
Oscar was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his lifelong passion for science and engineering, and the generosity, wisdom, and integrity that defined his life. He guided the careers of numerous young professionals, profoundly shaping their paths and leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
A Memorial Service to honor Oscar’s life will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 2:45 PM at Star of David (7701 Bailey Rd., North Lauderdale, FL). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Oscar’s remarkable life.
