Rather than talk about Paul’s illness, I’d prefer to comment on life growing up with my Buddy. ( we called each other Buddy) 
Paul is the most uninhabited, happy, kindest person have ever known. 
Growing up with Paul was always an adventure because one never knew what unexpected thing he was going to do next. 
In the middle of dinner at a packed restaurant, it was quite common for him to yell out he had an announcement He was loud so he instantly had everyone’s attention. He then asked for a round of applause for someone’s birthday. It didn’t have to be that persons birthday, but no one knew. and there was always a loud cheer from the patrons and often free birthday cake. 
One time while we were in A City, Bob Eubanks was doing a show. Paul immediately stood in front of the stage and asked Bob to pick him for the show. Paul’s task was to take his shirt off and put on a bra made of 2 coconuts and do a dance. Paul’s dance won him second place. I recall they gave him a toaster.  Pauls response was, Bob, I’m Jewish I already have a toaster! They ended up giving  him a gift card and told him to leave. 
Another time I flew in to meet him when he lived in Va, As the plane was taxiing I looked out the window and saw Paul talking to the guy with the orange flashlights guiding us in. I asked Paul afterward, how did he talk his way onto the runway? He said the only one that didn’t believe that he worked for the airline was the guy over there.

I could go on forever. 
I miss you beyond words Buddy but so grateful for all the amazing times we had

Our bond began 51 years ago when you were my softball coach (a losing 1-14 season, but we had more fun than anyone). It was life changing and we became brothers forever. Thank you for the laughs and good times. The many Paul Shapiro stories will be told for a long time.  You were unique and loved by everyone.  Rest now, my dear friend.
