Sandra Gwen Beskind Lewis….08/17/1938 – 01/24/2018. Amazing mother, grandmother, sister, friend, companion, teacher, mentor;, actually mother is all anyone needs to know. Known by her many monikers, Mom, Nanny, Sandi or Ms. Lew, she was a wonderfully kind, vivacious woman who positively affected more lives than can be recounted here.
Sandi was so much more than the dash that represents her time on earth. She was the ultimate mother….a ridiculously kind and big hearted woman. She mothered everyone she knew, whether they needed or wanted to be mothered.. And as such, she knew the surest way to someone’s heart was through their stomach! A phenomenal cook, her paella, lamb and orzo, Spanish macaroni (for her daughter only!), French onion soup, her moussaka with béchamel sauce, spanakopita or her lasagna were enough to stop people in their proverbial tracks. There are countless more recipes that friends would mention.
A very proud graduate of FSU, Sandi taught English and drama both on the high school and junior high levels for 30 years at Miami Country Day School and was revered and respected by students, parents, and colleagues, many who also happened to be former students. She touched so many lives positively that to try and recount them all would be folly!
In short, Sandi Lewis was a phenomenal mother, mentor, friend and person. You will be sorely missed as much for our conversations about sports and cooking and life in general as about Atticus Finch and the trial he was placed on every year in your 8th grade class. She would appreciate hearing the following: Famé, West Sayeed, Go Dolphins, and Go Seminoles! We love you more than you’ll ever know! Rest peacefully and rock on lady!
Sandi was preceded in death by her parents Clara (Breeskin) and Ted Beskind, and is survived by her ex-husband Mike Lewis, son Steven (Michelle), daughter Samantha (Marcus) Witztum, grandson Nathan Witztum, granddaughter Hayley Witztum, brother Jay (Diana) Beskind and partner David Green
