Born on March 30, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, Athanasios Papageorge was the beloved son of John and Eva Papageorge. Early in his life, the family relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he attended North Little Rock Public Schools.
He went on to pursue higher education at the University of Arkansas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Athanasios dedicated his entire professional career to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he made significant contributions to the field.
A devoted member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Little Rock, he cherished his faith and community. Among his passions were traveling—especially journeys to Greece to fish.
He is survived by his sister Maria Karoupas; sister Elaine Karoupas Mazanec and her husband George Mazanec; Cory Hinkle; and a great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eva Papageorge, and his brothers, Alex and Bill.
A funeral service for Athanasios will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1100 Napa Valley Dr, Little Rock, AR 72211. Following the funeral service will be a burial from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, AR 72117.
