Donna Allen passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025., preceded in death by many she dearly loved: her father, her mother Ida Mae Sharpe, her sister Jennifer Sharp, her first husband Robert L. Van Elsberg Sr. (1965), and her second husband Dwight Eugene Allen (2009).
She is survived by her son, Robert L. Van Elsberg Jr., and his wife Karen, who carry forward her legacy of faith, love, and compassion.
Donna and her beloved husband Dwight "Jeff" Allen served as missionaries with the Christian Jew Foundation for approximately five years. Together, they dedicated themselves to teaching Christians throughout the Southeastern United States how to share their faith with Jewish people. Donna’s deep commitment to this mission was recognized in a special way when she became a member of Hadassah, the Jewish women's organization—an exceptional honor for a Gentile woman.
Her heart for ministry extended further. She was instrumental in helping to plant Bethel Baptist Church in Sherwood, Arkansas, alongside Pastor Emory Langrell and his wife Gwen. Donna’s compassion was a constant in her life—expressed through her care for troubled street children on her block, whom she lovingly welcomed with Christmas treats and spiritual encouragement.
Above all, Donna was a devoted mother, raising her son alone from the age of 10 until he entered military service at 18. She was the steady hand, the guiding heart, and the constant presence in his life during those formative years. Her boundless love touched countless others, especially younger families that she and Dwight mentored through life’s trials with wisdom and care.
In her final 14 months, even as dementia increasingly took hold, the staff at Enterprise Health and Rehab witnessed her enduring affection and concern for those around her—an affection they reflected back to her in their loving care.
Donna Allen was a Godly, loving woman—a light to many and a wonderful mother. Her legacy is one of deep faith, tireless generosity, and a love that reached far beyond the walls of her home.
