Frances Jean Jones, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 2, 2026, in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She left this world while her daughters held her hands, returning to her beloved husband, Jim, after their short time apart. Frances was born on October 21, 1943, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Frances earned her degree from Baptist Health School of Nursing in 1964. At the time, nursing students lived on campus and could only marry three months before graduation. She met Jim on a blind date at Snappy’s Drive‑In, and they built a devoted relationship while she completed her training and he served in the Air National Guard. They married exactly three months before her graduation and went on to share sixty years of life and love.
Frances began her nursing career as a surgical nurse at Memorial Hospital and Doctor’s Hospital before spending three years as a school nurse with the North Little Rock School District. In 1981, she found her true calling when she joined the VA Medical Center at Fort Roots as a psychiatric nurse. She was known for her strong communication skills and her ability to defuse crises with calm authority. In 2006, she was honored with the VA Medical Center’s “Mental Health Service Employee of the Year” Award, a recognition of the compassion, skill, and dedication she brought to the countless veterans whose lives she touched.
Creativity and care were woven into everything Frances touched. Through her love of sewing, she stitched together the memories of her daughters’ childhood — handmade clothes, Halloween costumes, school‑play outfits, and tiny outfits for their dolls. She filled their home with warmth and meaning, offering her daughters a foundation from which to grow into women who trusted their own minds and hearts.
Frances moved through the world with a deep appreciation for nature and the everyday rhythms of life. She found joy in her garden, in arranging flowers, and in drinking her morning coffee as the river flowed past. Her dogs were never far from her side. She listened to the wind in her chimes as if it were speaking directly to her, a quiet reminder of the beauty she found in small things. As the seasons of her life shifted and her hands grew less inclined to sewing or gardening, she continued to turn the pages of her well‑loved books. She read her Bible each night, finding comfort and connection in the written word.
Frances devoted her life to her family. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren, nurturing a home where love and creativity shaped every day. She simply made life more beautiful.
Frances is survived by her three children, Laura L. Jones, Lisa D. Wilson (Kenny), and Jami N. Andrews (Thomas); her grandchildren, Elizabeth Dussex (Matt), Katie Goodwin (Kyle), Hannah Milus (Lee), and Callen Wilson; six great‑grandchildren; and her sister, Rita Manes Walters. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Jones, and her parents, Robert and Carrie Manes.
A service honoring Frances’ life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m.
