Joan Lowery, age 82, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Jacksonville, Arkansas, on July 6, 2021. She was born in Walla Walla, Washington, the youngest sister of Rita Broadhead, since deceased; and Louise Hubbard. Born to Mary and Leonard Wilson, Joan eventually acquired a wonderful stepfather, Albert Schmidt, all deceased.
After high school graduation, Joan enlisted in the Air Force, where she met and married Kenneth D. Lowery, who preceded her in death in 2018 after 60 years of marriage.
She left her military career behind to start a family, and became the proud mother of three. After working in jobs in childcare and real estate, she began studying for a career in nursing. She received her LPN license, and found her vocation in geriatrics, subsequently furthering her secondary education in healthcare management. She was finally able to showcase her home cooking talents in creating a successful local restaurant/catering business.
Joan was a voracious reader, with mystery her chosen genre. She enjoyed her religious studies at St. Jude’s Catholic Church and looked forward to them when her health would allow.
Joan is survived by her children: Elizabeth Thomas of Maryland, Kenneth “Jack” Lowery of Cabot, and Mary Aubrey of Springdale; their spouses LJ, Linda, and John; grandchildren Jennifer, Patrick, Melissa, Matthew, Amy, and Sheila Renee; and six great-grandchildren Cadence, Ian Ariel, Jack, Eloise and Beau
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 2:00 at the Griffin Leggett Funeral Home chapel with a future private interment date.
