When I first met you and Linda, you both opened your home and hearts. You were full of love and resilience! Words can’t explain how much pain I feel inside. I am saddened for your family and for my son. I am so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to meet you and intake all the great vibes and energy you always bring. Thank you for showing Zion what Da’mon didn’t have the chance to. You are always in our hearts. I still have all 3 bibles you gave me and I’ll make sure to keep them as long as possible and pass them on to my children. Thank you for being such a loving, supportive, and bright man. You were truly blessed.

My dad, Benny Lumpkins Sr., Uncle John’s youngest brother,  was incarcerated when I was little and he suffered from mental illness. So a lot of times growing up there were my dad’s brothers who stepped in to make sure me and my sister was going to have a normal life. 

For me especially one of my uncles in particular stepped in to teach me some man things. I got my first football from him, he was one of the reasons why I went to the military, and I learned how to clean out my ears with peroxide because of him. He made sure me and my sister went to go see my dad when he was in county jail and he also pushed me to get all the education I could get. 

Well this week my uncle: John Wayne Lumpkin passed away, and it has been so hard to put into words how I feel. Well Unc I know you are in a better place because of how you believed and prayed and ministered the word of God. 

I also believe that I am in a better place on earth because of how you cared about your brother’s kids all those years ago. 

Rest In Heaven Uncle John and now you and Damon can wrestle and box and play baseball again.

We're extremely saddened to hear of this news. Mr Lumphin was an awesome man and I loved talking to me when I saw him about food and worship. The Chalk's are praying for you Kenaan Lumpkin and the entire family, we love yall!!!

My sweet, loving, spunky, Bible thumping uncle made his transition last night. 
All I can think is “rejoice for those who transition into the force. Mourn those do not. Miss them do not” 
You finally have that great reward, well done Uncle. We love you always and forever, until we meet again.

In my mother’s words “Mr. Lumpkin has passed from death to life and will now begin his phenomenal eternal life.” 
It’s bittersweet to have to say farewell to loved ones. God has called home one of His strongest soldiers and for that I can rejoice. Knowing that Mr. Lumpkin has transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father and Big Brother Jesus gives me peace. Mr. Lumpkin, Mrs. Lumpkin and family you will always be my bonus family. Though time and distance parts us, Mr. Lumpkin and family you are always in my heart and prayers. With the heaviest of hearts I say farewell for now, but by that sweet by and by I’ll see you again. Until then, “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and grant you peace.”

Hello, my name is Joe Willie Varner, John Wayne , me and  John Henry Poole use to Hang out togeather on Plaza st in West Helena, He use to work for Mr Albert Liquor store there. Me, John Henry, and Herman walker all left west Helena in 1970 for Boston Ma. That’s was the last time I seen him. I left Boston  soon after n rejoined the military . we lost track of each other John Henry was killed in Boston , Herman stayed don know if he’s still there or amoung us In my youth I have great memories of John Wayne . I currently love in SouthHaven Ms  “Rest in Peace”

Uncle John,

I always admired how much you loved your family, your kindness, your strength, your FAITH, and your unwavering love for the Lord. You were the prototype of what a man should and could be. Committed to God, committed to your wife, and committed to your family.  For we shall know them by their fruits…..and you beared the fruits that have fed your family, friends, church family, and generations to come.  You were the real deal. 

I have so many fond memories of you , those memories will be forever imprinted in my heart. From you starting an extra long prayer right when everyone was ready to walk out the door lol to your loving hugs, the wisdom you imparted when I would come to visit. You will forever be missed. I thank God for your life and humbly grateful that I got to be a part of it. Until we are reunited again in the Kingdom of Heaven, I will always remember your influence on my life. 

Job well done Uncle, Good and Faithful servant. May your reward be the Greatest.

It's almost unreal to talk about My Uncle John in past tense but its our new reality...He was so impactful in my life from sitting at the dining room table on Sunderland  trying to eat all my food so I wouldn't get in trouble...Because He believed in NO food wasted! To having my My own Uncle John moments with my kids..For instance remembering him fussing at Tyra and Kalisa about getting hair and nails done and it costing too much money...Now I find my self fussing at Zion for the same reasons 🤣   ..I could write a book about him,  he literally brought all of us together as kids and young adults..He was going to always preach to us but he was balanced because he loved to have fun whether it be in the backyard, basement or at the park...He also supported my ministry to no end and for that I am forever grateful...I love you forever Uncle John and will cherish the memories in my heart...See you in Heaven!

A Tribute from the Heart 

To know Mr. Lumpkin was to be loved by him. He wasn’t just a friend to our family—he became family. To me, he was like a second father, always treating me and my loved ones as if we were his own. The love, guidance, and unwavering support he gave us over the years is something we will forever cherish.

Mr. Lumpkin had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and cared for. He filled our lives with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Whether it was through a hearty laugh, a quiet moment of encouragement, or one of his famous teachable moments, he left an imprint on our hearts that will never fade.

He went out of his way to make sure Tyra and I were always okay—never asking for anything in return. His generosity knew no limits, and his heart was as big as his faith. He poured into us spiritually as well, always reminding us of the love and teachings of Christ, and walking as a true example of what it means to live by faith.

Though it’s hard to imagine life without his physical presence, the legacy he leaves behind is rich with love, laughter, and purpose. We will continue to carry his light, his lessons, and his love with us every step of the way.
