Mamie Irene (Winfrey) Busbea departed from this world on Monday, January 29, 2024. She was born on March 11, 1925 to Lewin and Vicy Winfrey in Henderson, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, A.W. Busbea, and her granddaughters Karla Busbea and Elizabeth (Busbea) Baker. She is survived by her children Larry Busbea (Wanda), Sharon Kerr (Leslie), and Mike Busbea (Patricia), her grandchildren Larry Busbea (Michelle), John Kerr (Donna), Phillip Kerr (Kim), Michelle Tyree (Christopher), Brian Welch, Latisha Daniel (Jason), and her great grandchildren, Kase and Ramona Busbea, Oliver, Caroline, and Henry Kerr, Jackson Tyree, Hailey, Mary Addison, and Hudson Daniel, and nieces, Norma Hargraves (Bev) and Melinda Lawson (Mike). She also had a slew of loving friends and extended family.
She was most well known for her kind nature and sweet disposition, yet lesser known for her keen ability to hold a grudge. While she lost most of her sight as a young adult, she had the ability to see love in all situations. She taught us resiliency and the importance of working hard to achieve your goals, even if the goal is a game of horseshoes. We envision that her first experience in heaven was being reunited with her family and her beloved Coffee Cartel, a ruthless set of grannies and mothers that kept the neighborhood kids in line. She was a long time member of the Levy and Amboy Methodist Church. Her absence has been felt by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her and being a recipient of her loving hugs. Visitation will be at the Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to your favorite charity. She was a loving soul and had the biggest heart of anyone we knew. She will be greatly missed.
