Will: Make an attractive secretary
Shortly after graduating Business School, Ruth went to work at Southland Building Products, and lived in a boarding house with her roommate Paulette Lewis. One day Ruth answered the door at the boarding house and met the Love of Her Life, Roy Lewis. And so their Love Story Began.....
Ruth and Roy married on May 14, 1966. Not many years later they bought their second home which has been for 51 years.
In this home, they met some of the nicest neighbors around. As the neighborhood grew so did their friends. Jeff, Shanon, Jacob, Hollyn, and Hayden Hum were the first family that Ruth and Roy adopted and they adopted them too. Their love and friendship lasted a lifetime. The second family that Ruth and Roy adopted, Josh, Jocelyn, and Broc Schuermann which of course, they adopted Ruth and Roy right back. They have been constant, steady, and loving friends which Ruth and Roy truly treasure.
Ruth married into a large family, Roy had 9 brothers and sisters. Ruth was especially close to Betty and Maurice Lewis and Jack and Connie Renfro. Ruth's love of travel was just enhanced with the many trips they all took. Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and many states in between. One of her favorite trips was to Hershey Pennsylvania. It is rumors that for many years Ruth used to help keep Hershey's in business. Ruth was known for the cleanest house in the state and well known for her extensive shopping skills.
Ruth was often asked for her Jackson Cookie fruitcake, cherry pie, pineapple dish, and chicken salad. She could cook!
Ruth was well respected and held in highest regard by all of her employers. She was always offered more and asked to stay. One even said she was like a daughter to him.
Family meant everything to Ruth. She especially loved and adored her Nephew Greg. "He is the sweetest person" was her favorite saying. She really enjoyed his visits. She would say Greg never knew what joke or trick Roy was going to play on him. He was her Greg from Houston. She loved Greg and his wife Wendy and all of his kids. She was so proud of the man he is.
Her love for family extended through the closeness and friendship of her niece Deborah, Charlie, Mark and Victoria. Many trips, dinners, holidays, and visits were shared. Christmas trips to Branson with the Browns were among her favorites.
Ruth peacefully passed on September 20, 2024. She is preceded in death by parents, Fletcher and Lola Akin and her sister Virginia Stephens. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Roy Lewis. Her nephew Greg and Wendy Stephens, Special Niece Deborah and Charlie Brown. And The Entire Lewis Clan.
