Miami, Florida - Janice, age 97, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on August 10, 2025. She was born on June 15,1928 in New York City, NY. Jan attended Queens College where she earned her teaching degree and met her future husband of 70 years, Herbert Spahn, Jr.
Jan is survived by her three children: Nancy Marmesh (Michael), Jim Spahn (Diane), Herb Spahn III, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Gladys Duffy. She is predeceased by her husband, Herbert Spahn, Jr. and her brother, Frank (Bub) Blainey.
Jan was a longtime member of the Miami Shores Country Club, the Miami Shores Woman's Club, and the Bay Park Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Jan was one of a kind. She saw the best in everyone and everything. She sparkled head-to-toe and she was known to bring laughter and eccentricity to every occasion. She was honest and thoughtful with a quiet strength and resilience. She was a caretaker, seamstress, educator, bridge player, golfer, gardener, and loved all creatures great and small. She will be remembered for her beaming smile, gracious hostessing, green thumb, countless freckles, eternal devotion, unique gifts, culinary ventures, and eclectic style. If Jan could say something to us now it might be in the words of Frank Sinatra, "I did it my way."
Services will be held at Caballero Rivero Southern Funeral Home at 15011 W Dixie Hwy, North Miami on Sunday, August 31st at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
