Joseph Gerard Lys

This is a celebration of life and farewell to a great man,Joseph Gerard Lys. Born in Jacmel, Haiti, on April 8th, 1924 from the union of Arthur Lys and Elvire David, Gerard Lys grew up among his four (4) siblings now departed, Joseph, Lina, Celia and his twin brother, Georges. As the last survivor member of his family, he lived abundantly for 96 long years. He was preceded by his loving and devoted wife, Cecile Legros Lys, who passed away in 2015 and his daughter, Nativida Blaise Frederick. As his health was declining, he continued to live courageously until his last day on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020.

Gerard Lys was a highly respected and distinguished gentleman from the military academy of 1957. He was a self-disciplined and knowledgeable man with a passion for higher learning, an accomplished poet, actor, painter with a great sense of humor and sharpness, who had a fulfilled life. He was a man of great character with total devotion to his family.. He will be tremendously missed by his children, Fritzner (from his first marriage to Andrelie L'Official), Roseline, Emmanuel, Jacques-Edouard (Jacky), his ten (10) grandchildren and six (6) great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, in-laws, family and friends. He will always be remembered for his charm, eloquence and he will remain in the heart of people who had the tremendous privilege of knowing him.
