Morris Weiner passed away peacefully with a smile on his face on May 31, 2014 in Berlin, Germany. He was born in Bronx, NY on May 19, 1918 to Russian-Polish immigrants. He took great pride in all of his offspring: his daughter, Roseanne and Arnold Randall and their daughter, Elisa; his son, Michael Weiner and his children, Bryan and Amy Weiner (Fort Lauderdale, FL), Scott and Arlene Weiner and their sons, Joshua (deceased) and Joel (Virginia Beach, VA), and Lori Ertel and her daughter Chrystal; his daughter Sandy Weiner (Berlin, Germany/Embilipitiya, Sri Lanka) and her son, Daniel Joslyn (Amherst, MA); and his step-son Jerry Grief (Coursegold, CA. Predeceased by his beloved wife Freda (From) Weiner, and leaves to cherich his loving memory his wife Margarita Weiner.
He lived an active life and always strove to give back to those around him. He found his passion in life in helping those around him. He worked four jobs to provide for his children, including working for the New York Fire Department. As they grew up, he became deeply involved in community service, working with Hillal, Habitat for Humanity, and the Internal Revenue Service, among others. During World War II, Morris served in the Navy, and organized a rescue mission on Okinawa, which saved countless lives. Even at the end, Morris still loved to garden, and to take walks and admire the beauty of everything he saw.
Morris loved to sing and dance, and he could be counted on to carry a tune wherever he went. Throughout his life, he loved all sorts of music, although his heart and soul lay in Big Band. He loved musicals, and would often see shows on Broadway when he lived in New York. At the end of his life, he was content to watch Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific and Man of La Mancha for hours. His favorite song was “The Impossible Dream” from Man of LaMancha. At his 90th Birthday he still danced until 3 am.
A loving father, grandfather, caregiver, friend and gracious caretakee, Morris will be deeply missed by all those who know him. Few have touched each person they met so much; few care so very deeply for each person in their lives.
His funeral services will be held at Shalom Gardens 15800 NE 18th Avenue, N.M.B. on Friday June 6th at 3PM.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations in his name be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (http://jdrf.org/get-involved/ways-to-donate/) or the Sri Bodhiraja Foundation (http://www.bodhirajafoundation.org/Contact_Us.htm).
A thought for an after-party:
The family welcomes friends to a cash bar and hors d’oevres (or something)_____ (some Italian place that’s really good) for a memorial dinner
