Strength, humbleness, courage, and dignity are only a few words that exemplify one of God’s servants, Virginia Hutton. She was a woman of God and faithful member of Brownsville Church of Christ, where she served as the Sunday School Secretary. On July 23, 2025, she transitioned to her eternal rest.
Virginia Hutton was born, Virginia Brown on October 10, 1939 in Hilton Head, South Carolina to Mr. Henry Brown and Edna Mae Edwards-Brown, but raised by her grandmother, Eugenia Edwards. She was one of three siblings; an older sister, Ruthann, and a brother, Harold Brown.
She moved to Florida at a young age and married Mr. Albert Ancrum in 1963 in Miami, Florida, where they raised their daughter, Veronica Brown. She spent her career as the Head Cook at Rivera Country Club in Coral Gables for 20 years. She prided herself as being the “neighborhood candy lady” for many decades.
In 2004, Virginia Ancrum met Giles Hutton and on December 8, 2008, they were united in Holy Matrimony. Her marriage to Giles were the “Best Years of her Life” she often stated.
As we remember Virginia’s life and legacy, we also honor our family members who went before her. She was preceded by, her husband, Giles Hutton, her daughter, Veronica Barfield, her granddaughter, Cynthia Barfield-Whisett, her brother, Harold Brown, her sister, Ruthann Bullard-Custis, and her niece, Cynthia Graham.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Latania B. Avant (Marvin), six great-granddaughters, Shanae’ Lewis, Kyntoya Hansford, Lamonica Walkin, Jamia Robinson, Veronica Whisett, and Raniyah Williams, five great-great-grandchildren, Jayden Spaulding, Danaejah Jones, Makayla Jones, Kamari Turner, and Jai Holloman, and nieces Deborah Graham and Stephayne Bullard, along with the saints of Brownsville Church of Christ.
Though she has departed this life, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering grace.
