William Alphonso Cunningham was born on April 21, 1923 in Landrail Point, Crooked Island in the Bahamas. He and his family moved to New Providence in Nassau and he attended school there for years until becoming a tailor. After serving well in that capacity for many years he moved to the United States, taking residence in Florida and working as a contractor. He moved to New York City where he met and eventually married Mary Mullen on June 24, 1949. From this marriage came two children: Kent and Roberta. About a decade later William or “Bill” as he was known by many, accepted Jesus as his savior and devoted his life to the ministry and to the Church of God of Prophecy serving as a pastor, minister, deacon and in multiple capacities in both New York and in Miami, Florida where he and his family moved in 1968. William would extend his service into the community, serving for decades as the chaplain of the North County Citizens’ Association. William Cunningham was known as a mentor, loving father and father figure to many, a prayerful and faithful man who served his church, his family, his friends and his community unwaveringly. On December 11, 2012 he went home to be with the Lord. He will be dearly missed.
