With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Francis James Hogan, a titan in the Military Resale Market, on April 18, 2024. Mr. Hogan, 88, served as the Executive Chairman of Overseas Service Corporation (OSC), now OSC~WEBco, a leading worldwide sales and logistics agent specializing in service to the U.S. Military Resale System.
Mr. Hogan's journey with OSC began in 1959, where he began his career in the company's mailroom while still pursuing his education. Through determination and unwavering dedication, he ascended the corporate ladder, assuming various roles until he was appointed the company's second President and Chief Executive Officer in 1984, following the passing of the company's founder, Paul H. Coughlin.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955, Mr. Hogan pursued academics at Boston University, where he earned an associate degree in 1957. He furthered his education at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960. His academic prowess was recognized with membership in the Gold Key Society and the receipt of the Student Veterans Award for Academic Excellence.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Hogan pioneered efforts in support of supply to the U.S. Military commissaries, exchanges, and other government entities, earning him widespread acclaim as a leading force in his field. His leadership extended beyond the boardroom, as evidenced by his tenure as the past Chairman of the Armed Forces Marketing Council and past Vice Chairman of the American Logistics Association, which bestowed upon him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Hogan was deeply committed to philanthropic endeavors. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Trainor Endowment at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown, championing excellence in the conduct of diplomacy, and contributed to the Board of Georgetown's Institute for the Study of Diplomacy. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of Friends of Fisher House at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, providing invaluable support to families of veterans receiving medical care. He also was a longtime supporter of Mothers Against Murderers Association, the Lord’s Place in West Palm Beach and Holy Ground at St. Francis of Assisi in Riviera Beach.
Mr. Hogan's legacy of leadership extended to his employees, whom he regarded as family. The OSC~WEBco Family, found in Mr. Hogan not only a leader but also a mentor and a friend. His profound impact resonates across the military resale community and beyond. His integrity, innovation, and unwavering commitment to service leave an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mr. Hogan’s first wife, Kathleen McHugh Hogan, died in 1973. He is survived by his wife, Joanna Russell Robinson Hogan; his children: Lori, Frank, James, Paul (Patricia), and John (deceased); two stepsons, Jay and Tom Robinson; ten grandchildren (one deceased); and four great-grandchildren. All who knew him will remember and cherish his humor, his love of the Red Sox, and his glorious voice!
Mr. Hogan was a devout Catholic who worshipped at St. Clare Catholic Church or wherever he happened to be. He was an Honorary Oblate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Mr. Hogan's commitment to serving others extended to many charitable causes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations close to Mr. Hogan's heart, including the Semper Fi Fund, The Fisher House Foundation, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the National Military Family Association, and initiatives supporting the homeless.
A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Hogan’s life will be held at St Clare Catholic Church 821 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, FL 33408 on Friday April 26th at 11AM, where friends, family, and colleagues will gather to honor his life and commemorate his extraordinary contributions to both his profession and his community and family.
A reception will follow immediately after the service. A graveside service and burial will be held at a future date TBD in Boston, MA.
Frank Hogan is and will be missed. His legacy will endure through example, storytelling, hard work and “leaving things better than we find them”. He was an exceptional man.
