

Gilbert Hollums (Gil) Walker, a resident of North Palm Beach, FL, age 79 years old, died on February 25, 2015, at home with his family and Hospice of Palm Beach at his bedside. He was born on October 13, 1935 in College Park, GA, to Rufus Gilbert Walker and Nina Ruth Hollums Walker.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Sheffield Walker, his two daughters, Elizabeth Nina Walker Lev-Tov (Sean), of Boulder, CO and Blanche Anne Walker Jones (Gary) of Magnolia, TX; his seven grandchildren, Raven, Dean, Arianna, Cheyenne, and Sierra Jones of Magnolia, TX; and Joseph and Rachel Lev-Tov of Boulder, CO; and his two brothers-in-law, Davis Sheffield (Anna), of Richardson, TX, and Roy Sheffield (Polly) of Leesburg, FL.
He received a BS Chemistry degree from the University of Georgia in 1959. His social fraternity was Delta Tau Delta. Upon graduation from Georgia, he began his 35-year career at NASA, Langley Research Center, in Hampton, VA. He is the author of 35 scientific publications, and co-owner of patent #5,260,639, titled “A Method for Remotely Powering a Device such as a Lunar Rover.”
Gil and Betty retired to North Palm Beach, in 1996, and became active members of the West Palm Beach Fishing Club. He was most proud of the release of 36 blue marlin on his sport fishing boat, “Ice Tea Too,” with Betty as first mate and co-captain.
A casual memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 2:00pm at Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center, 754 US Highway 1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408. No flowers, please.
