Jane Bahouth (Mahoney) passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025 at her home in Palm Beach Gardens surrounded by her family after a year long battle with cancer. Up until the end she maintained her faith, kindness, love and gratitude for her long life. She was blessed with a loving family, many close friends and a life full of adventures and good times.
Jane grew up in Northern, NY and was 1 of 11 children born to Dennis and Mary Mahoney and one of the 1st set of fraternal twins born in the same year. She graduated from business school in Syracuse. She met the love of her life her husband George “Amo” Bahouth in Fayetteville. She was a school bus driver for the Fayetteville-Manlius school district for over 25 years. With the summers off it left her plenty of time to play golf. She was quite the golfer in her day! She was member of Cazenovia country club, belonged to a few golf leagues and played in many tournaments. If she wasn’t on the golf course then she loved watching it on tv or going to tournaments. She enjoyed going to the Ryder cup in Ireland and in the US and attending The Masters at Augusta many times. After Amo passed in 2003 she became a snowbird to Florida to be closer to her family. She was a member of North Palm Beach Country club where she met many of her close friends. She loved planting her flowers during the day and her evening ritual watching ABC nightly news with David Muir (he is from Syracuse). She also loved to play cards, Pitch was the favorite game and her friends nicknamed her “The Pitch Queen”, She was a fierce competitor and if you wanted to win then you picked Jane for your partner! Her other nickname was “The Mayor” she never met a stranger and she was always lending a hand to someone in need. Jane’s faith was very important to her and she enjoyed going to morning mass and when her health made it difficult for her to attend, Brother Paul would come to her home with the Eucharist. When Jane used to give someone a tip and they would say “its not necessary” her reply would be “put it in the church basket” that was her way of saying, make sure you go to mass. She always believed the world would be a kinder place if everyone had a little religion in their life.
Her family is grateful to the Dr’s. and nurses at Moffitt Cancer Center in Pembroke Pines, Jupiter Medical Center and JMC Anderson Cancer Center but most of all Tampa General Hospital in PBG where she went 2-3 times a week for over a year for lab work and treatment. The nurses became her friends and treated her like she was their own mother. The excellent care and special attention she received from Nurse Christina helped make a tough situation a bit easier.
Jane is survived by her sisters, Ann Huntsman of Sacramento CA, Sally Cooper of Kansas City, KS, Ellen Locke of Ft. Myers, FL, Patricia Schulte and Sheila Mahoney both of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; her brother, Neal Mahoney of Liverpool, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL who took the utmost care of her day and night throughout this journey. She leaves behind her children who were the light of her life, Michael Bahouth of Jupiter FL and Sheila Giardini and her husband, Carmine of Jupiter, FL and her only grandchild, Cameron Bahouth, who moved in next door to be closer to her. She fought hard through her cancer for them. We cannot forget her beloved cat, “Maureen” who was lost for 7 months and when Jane decided it was time to adopt another cat she went to Furry Friends Adoption in Jupiter. There as she entered the adoption room was Maureen just waiting for her. She says that is a miracle from God.
She was predeceased by her husband, George “Amo” Bahouth; her daughter, Mary Ann; her twin brother, John; sisters, Mary Slack and Penny Lynch and her parents, Dennis & Mary Mahoney.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to these charities that were close to Jane’s heart.
