

Mary Lou Todd DeVerna of Jupiter, Florida passed away on November 4th after a difficult three years having suffered a stroke that left her physically dependent on others whom she graciously appreciated.
Mary Lou was born in Jersey City on May 30, 1937 to Charles and Mildred Todd. She is predeceased by her husband Robert DeVerna his sons Brian DeVerna and Darren DeVerna (Karen). Darren always provided the best care for both his father and Mary Lou before his untimely passing. Her surviving stepchildren, Robert Deverna (Lynn) and Kim McGarry (Tom) were very loving towards Mary Lou as she was to their children where she never missed sending a birthday card and was sure to bring gifts when they visited for the holidays. Mary Lou loved the holidays and her and Rob’s Christmas tree was never less then ten feet tall and beautifully adorned with lots of silver.
Mary Lou is also survived by her sister, Doris Sheeleigh of Jupiter and her children Todd Peterson (Terrie), Brett Peterson and Dana Niles (David). Doris’ children were equally loved by Mary Lou. Mary Lou always made every holiday special arriving beautifully dressed ala Jackie O and carrying well-thought out presents for every family and extended family member.
Mary Lou attended St. Dominic Academy in Jersey and after completing secretarial school became an executive secretary for CBS television and the Ed Sullivan show. While living in New York City, Mary Lou continued her love of animals. Having grown up with her first dog, Spanky, Tara a silver haired German Shepard was at her side while living in Manhattan. When Mary Lou moved to Stamford, Ct., a newly adopted dog named Chuck joined the family.
Mary Lou and Rob moved to Jupiter around 1992 and lived at Sea Colony. Mary Lou could be found almost every day on the dog-friendly beach with her dogs. Beau, Friday and Bentley joined her over the ensuing years.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Juno Beach at a date to be determined.
