“Remembering Papa”
Michael Patrick Fitton passed away, at home, on December 17, 2020, at the age of 94 surrounded by his loving family. Mike, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in New York City on December 10, 1926. His parents Michael and Mary both arrived in the United States from Ireland at the turn of the last century. One of four children he attended New York’s Catholic schools. After graduating high school Mike joined the United States Army. With his service completed he met and married his wife of 73 years Anne Fitton (ne: Radziewicz) Mike and Anne were married on February 7, 1948.
Mike was a banker who spent his entire career with The Chase Manhattan Bank (J.P. Morgan Chase) where he rose thru the ranks to manage the bank’s branch system in New York City and later their General Services Division. Through Chase Manhattan he continued his education and graduated the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. His thesis, “Bank Credit Cards and the Checkless Society”, was placed on file in the Library of Congress. Written in the early 1970s Mike analyzed the transition in payment systems well in advance of that occurrence.
A lifelong resident of New York City he and Anne moved to New Jersey and then to their retirement home in West Palm Beach, Florida. A devote Catholic, Mike was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in North Palm Beach. Mike is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Patricia Hensley and her husband Edward Marron, Granddaughter Julia Hensley-Cooper and her husband Robert Cooper, their children Joseph and Madison, his sister Mary Nolan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike will be remembered for his wit and charm which were always combined with his deep sense of dry humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Trustbridge Hospice of West Palm Beach, Florida.
