When I was about to start first grade in the mid 1970s, my mother and I moved from Pittsburgh, PA, to Singer Island. A mutual Pittsburgh friend of my mother’s and of Dr. McIlvaine’s put our families in touch, and immediately my mother was enamored of the big, beautiful, welcoming family that was the McIlvaines. I think almost a quarter of one of Mom’s old photo albums are McIlvaine photos! 
Mrs. McIlvaine was such a draw!  She was the center of this crazy fun brood, and the house was so filled with joyous activity. I was a shy child, and Mrs. M was always patient and kind  — easygoing enough to make me feel comfortable. I’ll never forget the many, many hours I spent there at the pool, while she and my mother chatted and laughed. Forty-five years on I can still picture those times. The clothes! My gosh that house was full of clothes. I was so in awe of Beth, Judy, Lucy, and Nancy, and Billy. How Mrs. M remained so calm and with such a great sense of humor I’ll never know. 
That home was a magical place, at least to me. And she was the center of that place. Thank you, Mrs. McIlvaine, for being a significant part of my life during the 70s. I will cherish my memories of you forever.

Sending condolences to Judy and the whole family.  Your Mom contributed greatly to the Benjamin school and was a fantastic booster and positive presence.  She will be missed.

I feel so honored to have not only known Jo but felt like she was, in her way, part of my family. She was such a special person and had such a knack for just making you feel as though she truly cared about you. I was blessed to receive her hand created floral arrangements for whatever random occasion I may have shared when we encountered each other on our morning walks at Lakeside park -  the most memorable, when I lost my mother. She was incredibly thoughtful and gained pleasure in making others feel special. They honestly don’t make folks like this anymore and, again, I feel so honored to have had her part of my life. 

I remember the time her beloved golden, Sushi, as a geriatric dog got stuck at the beach on Lakeside Park and I happened to be there and helped to push that ole girl up the dune. We laughed so hard! 

My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. How lucky to have had her as your mother, grandmother, great- grandmother - she was a real gem.

Dear McIlvaine family,
      What a wonderful mother and grandmother you all had. My husband, Joe Maloney, started his dental practice in North Palm shortly after your father did.  The 60's and on through the years both of your parents were such fun, funny and wonderful people.  Jo was in the Junior Womens Club and Medical Dental Wives with me and we had many fun times modeling in various fashion shows and the usual NPB activties.  Our children, Molly and Missy were regulars at the Country Club pool and there was always a McIlvaine kid there or one of your parents.    Your mother had a wonderful smile and infectious laugh and great sense of humor.  Her spirit lives on in you all.            Sorry to say but Joe passed away in February of this year .  I live in Ormond Beach now and will not be able to travel there for her memorial but will always remember her.      God bless you all in your sorrow -  it is a very hard thing to go through. Beth my condolences to you and your family in the passing  of your beautiful mother.  She raised a wonderful loving family and was so active in the community .I saw her not to long ago and she was her friendly ,classy self with that beautiful smile and pretty lipstick.  
She will be missed by so many that loved and  knew her.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. McIlvaine's passing. We moved to North Palm Beach 10 years ago and quickly made friends with Mrs. McIlvaine at Lakeside Park. Every time my husband, children, and I saw her, she always had the brightest smile and was a pleasure to speak with. Our dogs would play and we would discuss growing up in Palm Beach County and all of the people we had in common.  I loved listening to her stories. 

Mrs. McIlvaine, please know that the entire village of North Palm Beach will miss your presence. Thank you for being a bright shining light in all of your neighbors' lives!

Oh, my goodness!   A true treasure has left us!   I have such fond memories of Josie at the pool.   I, and many of my friends from Pittsburgh who have come down here regularly for 30 years, have all enjoyed Josie.   I refer to her fondly as "The North Palm Beach Historian"!   God rest her soul! We feel very blessed to have had the privilege to meet Josie and spend time with her. The few years we were aquatinted with her, although brief, were unforgettable. She welcomed our family in her home and during her visits to N. C. with open arms. Her bright smile, gentle spirit and words of kindness will always be remembered!
