

A kind, honorable, compassionate and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away at the age of 80 on June 21, 2021 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Tom was born in Bronx, New York on March 1, 1941 to Thomas and Anne O’Connor. He graduated from Manhattan College with his Bachelor’s Degree. Tom received his Medical Degree from the University of Buffalo. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam as a physician discharged with the rank of Captain. Tom had a successful medical career in Radiation Oncology working at Buffalo General Hospital, Community Hospital in Indianapolis then opening his own practice in Buffalo, New York. Regarded highly in his field, Tom was known as a “Doctor’s Doctor”. His colleagues would come for assistance and advice on complicated cases. He was passionate about medicine and treating people with humanity and decency throughout his life. Tom continued to grow his knowledge in the study of medicine. He competed as a middle distance runner for Manhattan College and loved bike racing and rowing. Tom was an avid reader and eloquent writer. He wrote several articles on his experiences and service as a doctor in Vietnam. He kept contact with many of his fellow comrades and brothers. He was a member of Rosewell Park Medical Club, American Society for Radiation Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Tom married his loving wife Kathleen Emery on December 19, 2014. Tom is also survived by his children Tracey O’Connor, M.D. and Ben Dwyer, ESQ of Buffalo, NY, Thomas O’Connor M.D and Tabetha of Quincy, Massachusetts, John Emery and Amy of Fort Worth, TX, Sheila Murphy and Terence of Tarrytown, NY; grandchildren Eammon Dwyer, Rory Dwyer, Liam O’Connor, Ronan O’Connor, Nora O’Connor, Maeve Murphy, Sarah Emery; siblings Maureen Whiteside in New Jersey, Patrick O’Connor of Pennsylvania, Tim O’Connor of Florida and Anne O’Shea of Delaware. Preceded in death by his beloved sister Noreen Cunningham of Delaware.
A memorial celebration will be held on July 12, 2021 at 10 am, Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral and Event Center. A private family graveside service will follow at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
