Virginia Louise Merwin Lipps
July 26, 1925 – July 30, 2024
Virginia Louise (Merwin) Lipps (Ginny) passed away peacefully at age 99 on July 30th. Ginny is survived by her loving daughter, Linda (Lipps) Rosi and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan Lipps; grandson Jonathan Lipps and great-grandson Anselm Lipps; grandson David Lipps and partner Sierra Wagner; granddaughter Rachel (Lipps) and Matt Melone, and great-grandchildren Jude, Sawyer, and Ruby Melone; granddaughter Kim (Rosi) and Eric Fichtelberg, and great-grandchildren Tyler and Andi Fichtelberg; and many loving nephews and nieces. Ginny was born in Cylon, Wisconsin, the fifth child of six, to Gladyce and Clifford Merwin. She is a descendant of Miles T. Merwin who immigrated from England to America circa 1640.
At age 17, shortly after graduation from Fond du Lac High School, Ginny boarded a train to Washington, D.C. where she worked in the fingerprinting department of the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover. Upon her arrival at Union Station in Washington, D.C. she met Russell Thomas Lipps (Russ) who was serving as Military Police during World War II. Russ helped Ginny find the way to her boarding house, and the rest is history. They married January 22, 1944. After Russ returned from a deployment to China/Burma/India, they settled in Pompton Plains, NJ, later moving to Cedar Grove, NJ, where Ginny worked at J.M. Towne. In 1980, they moved to Englishtown, NJ, and in 1984 they moved to West Palm Beach, and to Palm Beach Gardens in 1993. Russ and Ginny were married 50 wonderful years before Russ passed away in 1994. Ginny was a faithful member and regular volunteer of First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach. At the time of her passing, she had been a resident of Emmanuel Care Assisted Living Facility (Flax Court) for two years, and lovingly attended by all the staff. Nothing was more important to Ginny than her family and she will be remembered by many who called her a friend.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated via check to First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, FL 33408, making mention of Ginny Lipps. If a donation is made online, please alert the family of the donation.
