William L. Edwards was born in Oceanside, NY on November 14, 1930. He spent most of his boyhood on the many golf courses of Long Island, setting a few course records and picking up some trophies along the way. He often noted that it was during his time in the Army (1953-1955) when golf rewarded him best, as he was chosen to be the personal driver of a general who shared his love for the game.
Before joining the army, Bill attended Colgate University (’52) and was an ardent alumnus throughout his entire life. His proudest academic achievement came when Colgate University inducted him into their Sports Hall of Fame.
After completing his service in the Army, Bill moved back to Long Island. He raised a family and worked in commercial real estate as an appraiser, broker, and investor, while playing golf whenever time allowed. Later in his retirement years, he moved to the Palm Beaches of Florida in search of warmer climates with better greens. He joined the Seminole Golf Club, where he played his last round at 84 years old. Bill was never quite the same without a club in his hand walking the links.
He leaves behind his wife Mary Ann, son Christopher, and sister Mary Conarro. Another son, Michael was lost in the World Trade Center on 9/11.
