
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Barnhill Wallace, son Craig L. (Karen) Wallace of Jupiter, FL, grandchildren Jennifer Wallace (Cesar Vargas) of Newberry, FL, Sean (Julie) Wallace of Hendersonville, TN, and very soon to be born, great grandson; in addition to his step-daughter, Nicole Dixon and her three children of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are brothers Dee (Jean) Wallace of Bassinger, FL and Chaunce (Carol) Wallace of West Palm Beach, as well as a multiple of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, William G. Wallace, Sr. and mother, Martha Jo Hogan Wallace.
Bill was born July 15, 1933 in Clewiston, FL and has lived and worked in Florida all his life. Bill follows a long line of engineers, surveyors who were pioneers who were instrumental in planning and building a myriad of structures, developments and infrastructure all over the State of Florida and ultimately the world. Bill spent the last 10 years of his career proudly and enthusiastically serving as the Martin County, FL Surveyor, a capacity in which he loved and enjoyed. Bill cut a large swath throughout his life, and will always be remembered and loved for his amazing sense of humor, baby blue eyes and his kindness.
Bill retired as Chairman of the Board of Gee and Jensen, Engineers, Architects, Planners, Inc. in 1985, and was president of Gee and Jensen International. He has been involved in the Surveying Profession for over fifty five years. He was preceded in the Profession by his Father and Grandfather, and his son Craig is also a Professional Land Surveyor.
Mr. Wallace served two terms on the Board of Directors of ACSM representing the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS), and a Fellow member of ACSM. In 1984, Mr. Wallace received the first National Surveyors Week Proclamation executed in 1984 by the late President Reagan. On a Local and State level, Mr. Wallace was Surveyor of the year for three years for the Palm Beach Chapter, and was Surveyor of the year for the State Society in 1979, President of FSPLS 1978-1979, Chairman of the local Palm Beach Chapter1974-1976, FSPLS Director 1976-1977, FSPLS President Elect 1977-1978, recipient of the Presidents Award in 1978.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 2-4, 6-8 PM at the Howard-Price Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 10:00 AM, 211 Trinity Place, West Palm Beach. Interment at Riverside Memorial Park, Tequesta, FL. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Bill’s honor to: The Division of Vascular Surgery Educational Foundation, C/O Shands, the University of Florida, 1600 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32620, or the charity of your choice.
