

Alan was born in St. John's, Nfld. Adopted into a Welsh family at 10 months old in Newfoundland and was raised in Nova Scotia. He was a true Newfoundlander! Survived by his beloved wife, Doris (Renaud) Jones. He was proud of his accomplishments in life. He was brought up in a Royal Canadian Navy family in Nova Scotia. He left home at the age of 18 and spent a good part of his life at sea. He also worked on the docks of Vancouver as a Long Shoreman. Often travelling from one coast of Canada to another to take a ship abroad to Africa, Communist China, South America, Australia, where he resided for a year working in a factory, and many other sea voyages as a Merchant Seaman. He gave his life to Jesus in 1972 at a Salvation Army Harbourlight and was very committed to the work of the Lord after that. Followed by a career as a Registered Nursing Assistant and Orderly in 1975 (approx.) Working in hospitals in Lethbridge, Calgary, and Edmonton. Between ships in the late 60's he worked at VGH. In 1981, he met his wife to be in Pickering, Ontario. Moved west in 1982 and married her there and were happy for 42 years. He worked at 100 Huntley Street in Lethbridge running the office, Toronto and Vancouver on the prayer line helping others. He was involved in his communities doing prison work and hospital visitation under Major Charlie Smith. He worked at G.F. Strong for over a year and then took a private job looking after an elderly man in the mid 80's. Vancouver General Hospital was to be his last stop for 25 years before his retirement in 2006. He travelled with his wife whenever opportunity came knocking. He volunteered with his wife at Fair Haven bringing joy to many of the seniors in a recreation capacity. Later he became the photographer for the Royal Society of St. George for a couple of years. Along his life's journey, in Oct of 2011 he was diagnosed with Dementia that would change the course of his life. He lived in care for just over 5 years from July 23, 2018 to Nov 11, 2023 at St. Michaels and George Derby where they cared for him. Alan did not have family to speak of, but was adopted into his wife's large French Canadian family. Sadly after a choking incident on Nov 7 Alan became very ill with aspiration pneumonia in his care home. He passed away at 8pm on Remembrance Day November 11, 2023. He was loved by family, co-workers and friends. He will be missed by many. He enriched so many lives and now he is resting in peace with his Saviour Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on December 3 at 1:00 pm after the church service at All Christian Fellowship, Rupert and 3rd in Vancouver, BC.
