Seaforth Highlanders Division 1
May 8, 1923 - December 7, 2018
IN LOVING MEMORY
Edward Morson, born May 8, 1923 in North Vancouver, passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on Friday, December 7, 2018. During his final days, Ed was surrounded by the love of his family. Ed grew up with 4 sisters, including his twin, Margaret. At the age of 17, Ed enlisted in the army and was shipped off to fight in WWII. He marched with the Seaforth Highlanders as they battled through Sicily, Ortona, and Hitler’s Line and on to liberate Amsterdam where he met and married his bride, Catharina Antoinette Ridderhof.
Ed and Toni returned to Canada, eventually settling in North Vancouver. Left to honour Ed are his loving wife of 73 years; sister Shirley; 4 children, Rudy (Grace), Donna (Bill), Edward and Deb (Jim); 8 grandchildren, Vince and Brad Morson, Kira, Natasha, and Paige Burnham, Billy and Stephanie Striebe, Slade Solobay; 6 great grandchildren, Sophie, Sean, Sam, Charlie, Olivia and Claire Morson; and many other nieces and nephews.
Ed was predeceased by his parents: Marguerite and Bill Morson, sisters Betty, Margaret and Yvonne.
Ed was a Supervisor at Molson Brewery for over 30 years, an avid gardener, fisherman, Citroen car collector and most importantly a Papa extraordinaire. He had a very close relationship with his eldest granddaughter, Kira – they adored one another. Ed was famous for serving hot apple cider at his grandchildren’s sporting events and eagerly spent time with all 8 grandchildren. We will forever miss his witty sense of humor, helpful nature and love of family.
The Morson family would like to extend special thanks to his invaluable caregivers Levy and Lizyl, his neighbors Jan and Sandy, Steven and Nicky for their kind and generous support throughout the years, as well as our gratitude to all the nurses and doctors at the Lions Gate Hospital for their attentiveness and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spectrum Society for Community Living, a Vancouver-based non-profit organization supporting adults with disabilities.
