It is with heavy hearts that the family announces Joan’s passing on Monday April 24th, 2023 at Sunrise Senior Living in North Vancouver, B.C. Born on January 7, 1933 in Hamilton, Ont., Joan was 90 years of age and will now join her cherished husband Jack Burns (deceased) on the 1st Tee at Grace Anglican church in Waterdown, Ontario. Loving mother of John and Geoff (and Susan), and beloved grandmother of Valerie (and Braedon) and Greg, she will be missed, while always remembered for her kindness and quick smile.
Joan adored children, working for many years as a pre-school teacher in Hamilton and Caledonia. She also loved gardening and could often be found tending and nurturing the beautiful flowers that surrounded their retirement house in Penticton. She was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed her and Jack’s retirement years, whether travelling in Europe or Australia or heading off for a round of golf at Summerland G&CC.
Joan spent the last decade of her life at Sunrise, after Jack passed. A lady of grace and dignity, she will always be remembered for her gift of song and singing, which she happily shared with those around her. On behalf of her entire surviving family, our thanks to all of the dedicated and compassionate care managers and support staff at Sunrise, who made Joan’s waning years as fulsome and comfortable as possible. Our special thanks to Estralita and Maria, she could not have been in better hands.
Love you Mom! Love you Grandma! Say hi to Dad (Grandpa) for us.
