The intrepid Enid Eleanor Winifred Nye (nee Wake) passed peacefully at Braddan Private Hospital on Dec 4th, 2025. This is a woman who travelled alone by freighter to her new job in Canada... in the 1960s. She crossed Canada twice by road – once in a camper van and once by car - camping along the way. When her itchy feet were planted in her adopted country she got busy building community. She led walking groups, volunteered in support of non-profits and donated to many charities (especially the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society of BC.)
We'd like to acknowledge the excellent care she received from the staff at Braddan Private Hospital. Though she liked to point out when things were not just so, she always spoke very fondly of them. We were witness to the care they took give her a high quality of life up to the end.
Enid is survived by her niece and nephew, family in England and friends home and abroad. She will be missed by the many she touched with her kindness. There will be a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to ALS BC (alsbc.ca)
