It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Erol Clifford Smith, who peacefully left us on January 23, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on July 19, 1937, in Lachine, Quebec, Erol was the beloved son of the late Clifford James and Gertrude Evelyne Smith. He was predeceased by his cherished wife of 42 years, Shirley Smith (Nicholson), in 2014.
Erol is lovingly remembered by his sister Lorna Clements (Ron), his children Leane Clements (Fraser) and Daniel Clements (Kristian), and their son Tyson. He is also survived by his stepsons Michael James Nicholson and John David Nicholson, along with Louise Beasley and her family, who brought joy and companionship into his life over the past nine years.
Erol had a fulfilling career spanning over 40 years in the telecommunications industry. He began at Bell Canada in Montreal, where he worked for 15 years, including during the excitement of Expo 1967. Later, he moved to British Columbia to continue his career with BC Tel for 25 years, contributing to the success of Expo 1986.
Erol was an active member of his community and took great pride in his leadership roles within his strata. Known for his dedication, wisdom, and warm spirit, Erol was a guiding light for all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date to honor Erol’s memory. Details will be shared with family and friends.
