Ethel was the only daughter of Jack and Hazel Guppy. She was born and raised in Burnaby. She worked at her brother, Jack’s gas station in North Vancouver. That is where she met our dad, Jimmy. He always sang and Ethel told him that he had a good voice. He returned to the gas station a few days later and asked Jack for Ethel’s phone number. They started dating, and in 1954 they married on Jimmy’s birthday, May 28th. They started a family right away. Their 1st child, JoAnn was born March 1, 1955. Judi soon followed as well as another daughter, Jacki. A few years later their first son was born, Rik. Living in a 1-bedroom house was getting cramped so they bought a 5 bedroom house and they moved to North Vancouver in 1963. Several years passed, and then their last son was born, Rob. Ethel worked for Zeller’s until her 1st pregnancy and then spent her time caring for and raising her growing family. She was an amazing baker and every year provided all of us with her delicious treats, particularly at Christmas. She was also a seamstress, was a precision knitter and enjoyed a variety of crafts. She joined a bowling league and bowled weekly for many years. She liked to play bingo and would go every Wednesday evening to St. Edmunds bingo. She also enjoyed going to the casino and had a few trips to Las Vegas and Reno. Ethel was the last of her generation. She now joins her beloved Jimmy as well as her daughter, JoAnn. She is survived by her daughters Judi (Mike), Jacki, sons Rik, Rob, grandchildren Michelle (Pedro), Danielle (Justin), Jaime (Ryan), Bryon (Jenn), Sean (Liz), Brandon, Louisa, and18 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at Boal Chapel on April 25th at 2pm.
