It is with great sadness that the family of Hermine (Tutzi) Saringer (nee Bontus), announce her passing at age 95, on July 16, 2023. She left us peacefully in her sleep.
She was born in 1927 in Romania, her family moved to Austria, where she grew up and met & married Joseph Saringer, in 1950. As the story goes, she was walking by a deck where Joe was relaxing in the sun, and said “Must be nice to be able to relax like that in the middle of the day”, to which he responded “You can too if you marry me” and so started the romance. In 1954, she, Joe, and son Arnie immigrated to Canada.
Tutzi is survived by her daughter, Keri Nelson, son-in-law Norman Nelson, daughter-in-law Diane Read Saringer; grandchildren Jeffrey Nelson, Michael Saringer, David Saringer; great grandchildren, Caelum Nelson, Brynn Nelson, Carter Nelson; sisters Erni Bontus Miller and Edith Nipp; nephews George Bontus, Terry Nipp, Kevin Nipp and Marc Nipp; Predeceased by her husband Joseph Saringer and her son, Arnie Saringer.
Tutzi's life was not without sorrows, but whatever difficulties were sent her way they never diminished her love for this world and the many wonderful blessings in her life:
Daughter Keri and Tutzi carried, encouraged and loved each other through days that sometimes seemed impossible, worries that seemed all consuming. But in the end...Keri and her mom, heart to heart and soul to soul, overcame them all. And then they greeted the next day, every silly moment, every happy celebration with smiles and laughter and of course love.
And if ever the two of them stumbled, Norm - her strong, gentle, and unfailingly kind son-in-law was always there. His love for his mother-in-law was quiet and deep.
Loving, caring, always and instantly ready to help, Diane was so much more than a daughter-in-law. In Tutzi's heart, she held Diane as close as a daughter.
Tutzi adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they will always remember her as their much-loved Oma and Omama.
Erni and Edith, were Tutzi's treasured sisters. They shared a friendship and love that only grew stronger and more precious with each passing year.
Churchill House in North Vancouver was Tutzi's home for almost a dozen years. Her many new and dear friends and the kind caregivers at Churchill House will miss her deeply.
Through her 95 years, Tutzi found happiness in the people she loved and also great joy in the small things of this world. She had a special place in her heart for all animals, cats and dogs and most especially her Lucy. Then there were flowers. Tutzi loved loved loved flowers, every colour and kind. These were the things that made Tutzi smile. They made her happy and they fed her soul.
Tutzi was gentle, caring and sweet and she lived her life with kindness, grace and laughter. What a wonderful legacy. She was deeply loved, and will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Tutzi's wonderful life will be celebrated in a private family gathering on her sister's farm near Evansburg, Alberta. Her ashes will be spread under the blue blue blue Alberta skies.
