John is survived by his wife of 68 years Gertrude (Gerti) Baranowski and his sister Monika Studer and her husband Gerhard (Gary)
He was predeceased by his parents Hubert and Eleonore Baranowski and his only child, Oliver Baranowski on July 7, 2023
John and Gerti and baby Oliver immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1957 and settled in Vancouver B.C. to join his parents and sister, to start a new life in Canada. John always said that Life in Canada has been very good to him.
He was fortunate to find a job that he loved at the University of B.C. in Chemical Engineering. After 38 good years he was eligible for early retirement at age 62. This allowed them to move to North Vancouver and enjoy a new home with a beautiful garden.
John was a really good Son, Husband, Father, Brother and Friend, always ready to lend a helping hand. He struggled with numerous health issues, surviving colon cancer in the 90’s and a stroke in 2005, but he always managed to stay optimistic about the future. Sadly a respiratory condition was a battle he could not recover from. His family and many friends who loved him will miss him sorely. A Private Memorial Service will be arranged at a later date.
