Our father, John Frank Stewart Stanley (Staleny), of North Vancouver, passed away peacefully at Capilano Care Home on November 26, 2020. He was born to parents Marion and Andrew (Andruch) on November 19, 1930 in Toronto, Ontario. Predeceased by sister Ann, John is survived by sister Caroline, daughters Karen, Andrea and extended family and friends.
John trained as a draughtsman in his younger years, later excelled as a welder and became known for quality and speed in completing work in the overhead position stretching hulls of BC Ferries and in creation of new Canadian Coast Guard vessels at Burrard Dry Dock.
John had a lifelong love of books, especially history, science, astronomy. His daughters remember trips to Stanley Park and Beaver Lake as children overturning stones to watch crabs scurry and collecting water samples to view under the microscope.
His appreciation of the arts and hobbies included building model airplanes, stained glass artistry, classical music which he played on the organ, old musicals and movies, photography, wine-making (making him a popular neighbour) and calling bingo many years for his neighbours. He enjoyed cooking and baking, especially enjoying desserts and Ukrainian food. Dad made the best BLT sandwiches! John could be opinionated and expressed his thoughts freely. Seeing babies and dogs always brought him joy. He loved his family, was especially proud of his daughters and enjoyed spending time with them.
Rest in peace, Dad.
