John passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at North Shore Hospice.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helene, his children, Patrick (Lise), Madeleine, Scott and Danielle (Fabio), and his grandkids, Jordan, Kaylie, Chantal, Makayla, Makaio & Nevaeh.
John was born and raised in Ottawa and attended St. Pat’s high school where he excelled at sports and academics. He later attended Queen’s University where he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in civil engineering and met the love of his life Helene.
They soon moved to Vancouver where John accepted a position with the City of Vancouver after being amazed by the West Coast’s beauty. John managed the City of Vancouver’s Sanitation/Recycling department, retiring after 35 years of service. John especially enjoyed organizing the “Truck Rodeos” each year.
For almost every year with the city, he and good friends Rudy, Cliff & Terry took 1-2 weeks a year to fish Barkley Sound, landing many a Tyee. John literally had one room in his house dedicated to his fishing gear. He also enjoyed sailing and fishing closer to home with good friends Gerald and Gerhard.
John loved skiing and enjoyed teaching all of his kids to ski Mt. Seymour, where he lived, and Whistler. He also loved playing and watching hockey, taking his kids and grandkids to many Canucks and World Junior games.
John loved sports and fishing, but he loved his family most of all.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to North Shore Hospice’s staff for their kindness and support.
There will be a prayer service Friday, January 23rd at 7pm and a funeral mass on Saturday, January 24th at 11am at St. Pius X Parish.
