A beautiful light went out on September 15, 2024. After a full and eventful life, Katharina passed away at the age of 98. Katharina will forever be remembered as being extremely gentle and kind, with a hearty laugh that could light up a room. Her family was always her focus, and her unconditional love was truly evident. Despite her gentle nature; she was a very strong and resilient person. She faced many hardships in her life; yet handled adversity with acceptance and grace. Born in Karamurat, Romania, her childhood was soon replaced with the need to work to help support her family. The war took her away from her loved ones, fleeing with the family she worked for. After she met her husband, Markus, they immigrated to Richmond to build a new life.
She was a fantastic cook and baker. Her home was often filled with the wonderful aromas of fresh baked goods, or a wonderful home cooked meal. She was also very creative with her sewing, knitting, and crocheting – almost always having created her own patterns. She liked to keep in touch with her family and friends by phone; and we will remember her boisterous laugh vividly.
Katharina will be dearly missed by her daughters Monika (Kelly) and Anne (Brad); plus granddaughters Emily and Kayla. Katharina is also remembered by her sister Monika and family. Many other family members and friends both here in Canada and overseas in Germany and Austria will remember Katharina dearly. She was predeceased by her son Werner, her husband Markus, and her sisters Tina and Anna.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
