It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Kay Sinclair on October 29, 2025. Kay passed away in her sleep in loving care in Coquitlam, BC.
Kay was born in Vancouver, BC on January 10, 1933 to loving parents, father Paul Dong Noon and mother Chan Lin Kong (King). Kay was the oldest of three children her sister Betty Takemura and brother Dick Jung, who sadly died on May 9, 2018.
Kay was a proud Strathcona girl and graduated from Vancouver Technical High School in 1951 as President of her class in Commercial studies. While she was there, she also received athletic block letters for basketball and grass hockey, and like her son Ken, was a true warrior on the field.
Kay had it all: brains, beauty and incredible organizational skills. She was a strong, independent woman who raised four (4) wonderful boys. All the while working as executive assistants to the President of Pacific Terex in Vancouver and the President of the Canadian Park & Tilford Distilleries in North Vancouver, BC.
A little later with her longtime friend Lenore Cheesman, they opened and operated a very successful personnel agency in the Vancouver area, Cheesman Personnel.
Kay raised her boys with love, guidance and on occasion the use of the famous wooden spoon. All is good, look at us now!
Mom loved her pets, especially dogs: Eeddee, Danny, Lucy and so many more that shared her life over the years.
Kay is survived by her sister Betty Takemura (Ralph), her children: son Peter Wong (Nana), step son Chris Wong (Helga), foster son Ken Jew (Jean) and step daughter Sharon Sinclair. She has grandchildren: Emily, Rebecca, Stephanie, Aaron, Chris and Curtis, and as well, great grandchildren: River, Raven and Walker.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Sinclair October 17, 2012, her son Jeffrey Wong November 17, 2015 and her brother Dick Jung May 9, 2018.
For those of you who knew Kay, you knew her as a loyal friend that would go to bat for you when needed. But did you know that even though Kay was a true independent woman, she was also very committed to the man she was with. Kay was married three (3) times in her life, the last was with her late husband Hugh Sinclair. The following has been taken from a letter that was sent to another family member and is worth sharing, as follows:
The one thing I know about my marriage with Hugh is that we really loved and cared for each other; and no matter what, we stuck together. We were the best friend of each other and even when he was so sick towards the end of his life, he always told me how much he loved me and knew that I loved him with all my heart too. I do miss him, we had fun together and laughed a lot throughout our time together. Always a total gentleman.
Hugh died October 17, 2012, North Vancouver in the loving care of Mom and her step daughter Sharon Sinclair. His picture remained at her bedside to the very end.
There is a planned celebration of life for Kay at the First Memorial Funeral Home & Boal Chapel 1505 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver, BC on February 17, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Refreshments and a light meal will be served on-site after the service.
