Ken will be missed by his children and their families - Karen, Mark and Byron Pettit; Kristina, Chris, Karl, Kenneth, and Christopher Schultze; Karla, Nikolai and Lauren Markin; Kenneth, Maureen and Alexander Campbell. He grew up in East Vancouver and raised his family with Helen in West Vancouver. Ken graduated from the University of British Columbia and was proud to have been on the soccer and track and field teams, and a Kappa Sigma brother. He also was a member of the Physical Education UBC Alumni Committee. Ken enjoyed his days as a lifeguard on the Vancouver beaches. He was a teacher and counsellor with the Vancouver School Board and retired in 1995.
Always active, Ken played soccer with over 40 different men’s teams, some at the premier level in the Pacific Coast Soccer League from 1954-61. He played youth lacrosse and ran the Vancouver Marathon in 1986. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play and compete in field hockey, hockey, soccer, rugby and track and field. Ken travelled the world with his family, skiing in Sun Valley and Whistler, swimming in Penticton and California, enjoying the beaches at Spanish Banks and Jericho, and touring Europe in 1976 in the family’s Volkswagen camper. He was a kind gentleman with a positive outlook who shared his adventures with everyone.
Ken loved his family and his relatives. He had many friends, including former students, whom he inspired to do their best. There will be no service by his request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
May he rest in peace forever.
