It is with great sadness that we announce that Lynda McIntyre (née Carson) passed away in her sleep in North Vancouver Hospice on March 6, 2024, of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Lynda’s journey began in Edmonton, Alberta on July 15, 1949, where she spent her early years. In elementary school, her family relocated to British Columbia, where she spent a blissful childhood in south Vancouver. Following her high school graduation, Lynda ventured to Toronto for a period, where she embraced an organic, vegetarian lifestyle ahead of her time. Her commitment to social causes during this time period, particularly within the women's movement, marked the beginning of a lifelong dedication.
Returning to Vancouver, Lynda taught fitness classes and began jogging, marking the beginning of her commitment to fitness. Lynda’s path soon intertwined with Doug's, and they established their home in North Vancouver, raising their two children. Her role at Sears, spanning two decades, endeared her to the local community as she expertly assisted customers with major appliances. This chapter of her life not only provided stability but also underscored her reputation as a trusted and familiar figure in North Vancouver.
Becoming a grandmother brought Lynda immense joy, and she devoted extensive time to planning and creating unforgettable experiences for her cherished grandchildren. From making holidays extra special, to working on puzzles and crafts, going for pedicures, and baking special treats, her grandchildren have many warm memories of their time spent with her.
Throughout her life, Lynda was a spirited explorer who eagerly embraced the world around her. From hiking the Rockies and camping in Washington by tent trailer, to sailing through the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound, her travels were marked by a sense of curiosity and a deep appreciation for nature's beauty. Trips to California in her beloved Escape trailer, numerous visits to various regions of Mexico, and several international adventures further underscored her adventurous spirit.
Lynda's love for cooking was evident in her dedication to browsing recipe blogs and meticulously meal planning. Whether preparing a lavish appetizer spread for Christmas Eve, crafting gourmet camping meals, or exploring the latest TikTok recipe trends with her grandchildren, she found deep satisfaction in sharing her culinary creations with others.
Known for her attentive listening skills and genuine interest in people's stories, Lynda's thoughtfulness extended to gift-giving. She would eagerly hunt for the perfect present, often inspired by a casual remark made months earlier, meticulously selecting items online or exploring malls to ensure her gifts were heartfelt and meaningful.
Lynda is succeeded by her husband Doug, her daughter Jocelyn (Rob) and son Travis (Sabra), grandchildren Jane, Ophelia, Parker and June, and brothers Tim (Olinda) and Guy. Lynda’s family members wish to extend their thanks to many friends who have offered their support during this difficult time. They would also extend thanks to the staff at Lions Gate Hospital, the Palliative Care at Home Program, and the North Vancouver Hospice for their care during her illness.
No funeral is planned at Lynda’s request. An open house gathering of friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 21st, from 2-4 at 279 E 5th Street, North Vancouver.
