Our dear Marg, Mom, and Grandma passed gently on January 9, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at North Shore Hospice. After courageously fighting and beating cancer previously (2017-2022), the cancer resurfaced in mid-November 2025. Marg’s final months reflected the same spirit, bravery, and positivity that defined her life.
She touched so many lives in her 76+ years with us, more than she will ever know. She had a gift of effortlessly connecting with people and had a knack of making everyone feel special without even trying. She had so many close friends with meaningful and deep connections. She valued and treasured each of them.
Her rich life has so many chapters, each with lasting impact, from co-founding her own business (Decks Awash, which is still operating today!), to winning bronze at the World Amateur Racquetball Championships, to becoming a Ruby Master bridge player, to her thousands of hours volunteering in palliative & hospice over 30 years. Her love of travel was a constant throughout her life, and she was always looking forward to her next adventure. Over the years she explored many parts of Canada and visited 46 countries with Jim, her travel companion and loving husband of 57 years.
Marg’s pride and joy throughout her life was raising her three sons, to whom she gave everything. In her later years, that pride and joy was brought to and showered upon her grandchildren who she loved so dearly; she had a unique and special bond with each.
Marg is pre-decreased by her dad (Doug), and survived by husband (Jim), mom (Gwen), sister (Sylvia), brothers (Jeff, John), son (Byron, wife Carolina), son (David, wife Patty, grandson Torsen), and son (Jason, wife Diana, grandkids Kaiya & Noah).
The Elligott family is grateful for Dr. Katherine Paton (Eye Oncologist) and Dr. Alison Weppler (Oncologist), for their exceptional treatment, care, and compassion during Marg’s struggles with cancer. We would also like to acknowledge all staff at the BC Cancer Clinic and North Shore Hospice for their amazing care and dedication.
A Celebration of Life honoring Marg will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 2:00-4:00pm at The Pinnacle Hotel, 138 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver, B.C. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Marg’s name to the Lumara Society (Camp Kerry), a cause that meant so much to her and where she spent so much of her volunteering time helping families dealing with grief.
