She was born January 18, 1922, in Pleasant Home, Manitoba.
Lynn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond F. Nasstrom, P. ENG in 1973 after 33 years wonderful years of marriage, and by her second husband of 15 years, Lt. (Retired) George F. Prentice, in 1990. She was also predeceased by her sisters Anne Pearson, Nancy McGregor and Phoebe Joyce Stokes as well as her brothers Leonard Thompson and Harold Thompson.
Lynn is survived by her beloved daughter, Pamela Joyce Nasstrom, who was her greatest pride and joy, and most important to her above all else. Also survived by her many nieces and nephews and their children. She especially loved children and family.
Lynn was known in many communities for her volunteer work, including many years of work in the United Church. She was always willing to work cheerfully for the glory of God and was, at times, lay preacher in several mining communities in Northern Ontario and Baie Verte, Newfoundland where her husband was Mine Manager. Lynn was president of the newly formed United Christian Women for several terms, and led services for the World’s Day of Prayer. She loved to sing, wrote many songs, and was a soloist and choir member. She also taught Sunday School, was a Brownie leader and President of the Hospital Guild in Newfoundland. She later did volunteer work in several municipal hospitals in Winnipeg, prior to moving to British Columbia in 1975. In B.C she continued volunteering at the Physio Department for the B.C. Arthritic Society.
Other interests Lynn enjoyed included writing poetry and stories, and reading about ancient history. She did beautiful needlepoint, card making and decoupage, some of which she sold to friends to raise funds for children and adults with medical needs. Her love and concern for others never faltered. One of her favourite quotes was “New beginnings come every day; new hopes, new dreams, new challenges and love for all mankind.” She had a great concern for planet Earth, and nature in general.
Lynn also had a successful business career in high end fashion where she managed Ladies Wear and was also the buyer and manageress for Holt Renfrew’s Furs in Winnipeg. She was a fashion coordinator and was known for successful fashion shows put on for various fashion houses, and on television in cities across Canada.
Cremation took place, as per Lynn’s request.
Friends and family may make donations to their favourite charity, or to the B.C. Heart Fund, in Lynn’s memory. Please note, this obituary was written by Lynn 22 years prior to her passing.
She is, and will be, greatly missed by daughter Pam, and other family members.
